Big movements start out with small steps, and that is Vodafone's approach towards sustainability efforts Qatar.  Last month the telecom giant introduced a SIM card made from 100% biodegradable paper.

For Vodafone, it is just another series of sustainability initiatives that the company has started in Qatar.  Starting last year, the packs in which SIM cards were encased in packs made from recycled plastic, and the company has moved towards recycling all unused brochures, flyers, scratchcards, and posters.  Vodafone has pushed for increased cell phone recycling, too.

As Qatar organizes a 2022 World Cup that promises to be a showcase for sustainability, that thinking has got to be embedded amongst its 1 million people.  Waste diversion and recycling efforts like those of Vodafone's are a good start.  Technology makes our life easier, and dealing with e-waste will make us healthier in the long run.
