Trees are your best antiques. ~ Alexander Smith

there aren't rats hiding here, are there?Well, maybe not these.

My brother, who lives in Brooklyn, sent these photos through his iPhone as he was taking his dog out for a run.  As much as I love New York, one image that always sticks with me are the piles of garbage that line the streets almost every evening.  When he went out the other morning, garbage pickup day had a little more festive ring to it.

I just hope these trees are being mulched.  I've mentioned that I tend to side on the "real tree" of the real-vs-fake tree debate, as long as you are recycling your used Douglas or Noble fir trees.  I understand the logic of plastic trees, butplease tell me the FedEx man didn't drop them there unless there's a bio-plastic model I'm unaware of, I think real is the way to go--you're supporting a business that is tending and taking care of the land instead of some ghastly factory in China!

I think this will be the last holiday-related post for a while, unless there's some fantastic organic choclatier for Valentine's Day that I'm unaware of . . .

 Just like A Christmas Story: "this ain't no tree . . . now THIS . . . is a tree!"

Special thanks to Kevin Kaye and Chester for the photos!
