The Maze of Mumbai’s VT is the Anchor of India’s Rail System
Whatever you may think of Slum Dog Millionaire, the shots and scenes at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus were certainly impressive. Now over 125 years old, the former Victoria Terminus, still known locally as VT, is an impressive maze of infrastructure, noise and people. Anywhere from 3.3 to 4.5 million pass through VT, and this masterpiece of Indo-Gothic architecture anchors a suburban rail system that ferries 8 million people daily.
If you travel to Mumbai, a quick stop at VT / Chhatrapati Shivaji is a must. It is a microcosm of what India is all about: the smells, noise, people, bustle sum up a country and its largest city, on the move, and despite challenges, is moving forward.
