In 2011, blue chip companies from Walmart to Coca-Cola to Disney have accomplished several initiatives from waste diversion to water efficiency. Here are some observations I have made as spring turns into summer.

Walmart Commits to More Sustainable Agriculture

Like any smart business, Walmart is responding to market conditions and is spearheading all kinds of changes in its business operations. Sustainability has been a central to the company’s shift in strategy, and Walmart has made commitments from zero waste to a focus on climate change. Now agriculture is in Walmart’s crosshairs: the USA’s largest purveyor of groceries has launched new sustainable agriculture goals.

Several large multinationals, including ExxonMobil, BP, Seimens, and Carrefour have a presence in Zhuhai. Despite its massive economic and population growth, Zhuhai is a pleasant city to spend a few hours to take a break from casino-mad Macau; life as an expat here would be a fine option, too.
