Roosevelt Hotel Keeps Old Hollywood Alive

May 01, 2011 1 Comment by
In some ways Hollywood is a shell of what it once was.  Hollywood is now more of a concept and industry than a place, and has spread far from the street corners around Hollywood Boulevard and Vine.  Films are shot in Toronto, Arizona, Vancouver, Louisiana, and just about anywhere where costs are cheaper than in California.

Hollywood has come back, however, and has of the liveliest night scenes in Los Angeles.  Even if you live here, gawking at the stars along the Walk of Fame and the handprints in front of Mann's Chinese Theater.

The old Roosevelt Hotel still anchors Hollywood, and is a great place to stay if you travel to Los Angeles and want to be 40 minutes from everywhere in LA--which is still the reality thanks to the 24/7 traffic congestion.  A couple blocks’ walk will take you to the Metro, which can ferry you underground by rail to Downtown and Koreatown.

Built in 1927 for US$2.5 million, Several years ago the Roosevelt Hotel got a facelift.  The ornate interior shines with old glamour, and takes you back to when the first Academy Awards were held here in 1929.

The Spanish Revival style of architecture is especially stunning inside--well worth a walk-through.
