Project H Inspiring More Wonders in Rural NC

Bertie County, North Carolina, is the poorest and most rural county in what is overall a state that has emerged as an economic powerhouse.  But this remote area due west of the Outer Banks and a two hour drive east of Raleigh has been the showcase of Project H Design’s amazing work.

Sparked by Emily Pilloton, Project H works with the local school district to drive economic development while teaching trades to local students.  The latest project is particularly impressive and is Exhibit A of how local residents, schools, government, business, and non-profits all work together.

Over the summer, Project H partnered with Bertie County students to build the Windsor Super Market (a farmers market pavilion) in the county seat of Windsor.  The market had been in operation since May, but last weekend, the pavilion opened to the public.  Features include a ramp for easy access by shoppers that also merges into the ground; a design that allows trucks to pull right up to the pavilion; and a high-pitched ceiling that will protect vendors and shoppers from the rain.

Last weekend the market opened.  Watch a video of the transformation.  Project H and its latest accomplishment is a prime example of how humanitarian design can truly change people and the planet.
