Best Memorial Day Monument Now Part of Baltimore’s Past

With our WWI veterans all gone (with the exception of Florence Green, who worked as an officers’ mess steward) and our WWII vets numbering less than 1.9 million, we need to take a moment out away from our long weekend revelry and remember the men and women who died serving our country.
Thankfully the American landscape is dotted with veterans monuments, from grand ones in Washington DC and New York City to smaller yet no less important one in small towns and hamlets.
My personal favorite? Memorial Stadium in Baltimore, former home to the Orioles and Colts and a great place to watch a game. The stadium has been demolished for 10 years now, but the facade that faced 33rd Street was towering and deservedly so. Towering over fans who filed through the turnstiles, the inscription read:
DEDICATED BY
THE MAYOR AND THE CITY COUNCIL
AND THE PEOPLE OF BALTIMORE CITY
IN THE STATE OF MARYLAND
As a Memorial to All
Who so Valiantly Fought
and Served in the World
Wars with Eternal
Gratitude to Those Who
Made the Supreme
Sacrifice to Preserve Equality and Freedom
Throughout the World
TIME WILL NOT DIM THE GLORY OF THEIR DEEDS
Now Memorial Stadium only remains in pictures--mine are from the pre-digital era and not yet scanned. I borrowed this one from Wikipedia.
