Masdar City

Masdar City

In 2013-2014 I lived and worked in Abu Dhabi, where I served as a communications officer with Masdar, the Abu Dhabi Renewable Energy Company. Working within Masdar was unequivocally a personal and professional highlight for me, and I am proud of the relationship I have with the company, its executives, employees and consultants. Last year I spent several months in Abu Dhabi working with the company’s communications team again, and I continue to work on projects with them.

Masdar is an incredible part of the Abu Dhabi Vision 2030, a hefty initiative designed to move Abu Dhabi, and the rest of the United Arab Emirates, towards a more diversified economy critical for the 21st century. A unique hybrid, the company includes Masdar City, a clean energy development group and a clean tech fund. Also sharing the Masdar name is Masdar Institute, a graduate school in partnership with MIT that for now is the focal point of Masdar City.

Projects on which I have worked include visits from key dignitaries; a United Nations planning meeting that was a steppingstone towards COP21; a biofuel project that is paired with an aquaculture program; the Annual Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week; and the inauguration of the International Renewable Energy Agency’s (IRENA) headquarters in Masdar City.

No one on earth, and no other country, is trying to accomplish what Masdar City is attempting to do. I am proud of my association with this company and eager to share my experiences there. I encourage you to visit Masdar City if you happen to visit the UAE or Abu Dhabi. Contact them for a tour, or take a taxi if you happen to transit through Abu Dhabi – Masdar City is a 5-minute drive from Abu Dhabi International Airport.
