Look, it is out of the price range for most of us, but take a walk in and around Llao Llao Resort just outside of Bariloche in the southern Lake District of Argentina. A 10 to 15 minute walk from Puerto Pañuelo, where many visitors either enjoy a spectacular lake cruise for the day (or cross into Chile), the vast grounds are a great place to kill some time before you board that boat.

We can debate the resort’s environmental street cred, and the sights and people wandering around this complex’s halls are for the most part not feeling the pain and struggles that have affected so many people across Argentina. Nevertheless, the views of the mountains and water in this gateway to Patagonia will bring out emotions; a coffee or cocktail can offer that needed kick; and the beautiful furnishings inside offer a fleeting taste of the good life. When you travel to Bariloche, take the time to drop on by. Your eyes will become wide, your jaw will drop and you will feel lucky and glad to be alive.
