In The Trenches

Parkman Triangle took shape this past Saturday; we had about 12 volunteers do some of the hardest work of the year. They dug trenches and lay PVC pipe for the irrigation system, which was no small feat. Add the fact that the dirt was still full of rocks and had been compacted, and this was quite the workout. Yours truly was out of town for the Easter holiday--I wish I had been there!
The work continues on Saturday, April 10. We we will be working from 10 to 2. Bring your gloves, a hat, sunscreen, and a water bottle!
I would be remiss if I did not mention how much M&A (Materials & Applications) has helped in getting the word out. This weekend, M&A will launch its newest MatterApp workshop series, Bitter Melon Trellis (for the National Bitter Melon Council), at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA). The series fits into a year-long program at the museum designed to explore food as a curatorial theme, drawing work from the permanent collection and from artists in the LA community. EATLACMA will generate garden's on the museum campus in addition to a host of events and workshops. M&A is happy to offer a workshop to construct a sculptural trellis for melon genetics experiments.
EATLACMA is curated by Fallen Fruit with David Burns, Matias Viegener and Austin Young, and LACMA curator Michele Urton. Here's more information:
