Green Acres in Beverly Hills

Ah, Beverly Hills. 90210 has a mythical quality to it--unless you live in LA. Indeed, BH is a guilty pleasure with its delightful people watching, decadent boutiques, and posh hotels. I usually cringe when I drive there, however. Many classic homes have been demolished in favor of garish McMansions, and stop signs appear to be optional . . . it's guaranteed that I'll almost get hit by someone weight 90 pounds driving a Hummer, chatting away on her cell phone.
Green and Beverly Hills seem odd appearing in the same sentence. SUVs and sports cars are the rule; I doubt you would find recycled packaging at any of the hoity-toity shops; and its powers-that-be were hell bent against any red line station until it was agreed that the stop would be outside the city limits (they do need maids, receptionists, and assistants as long as public transport isn't an inconvenience.
Well, just like everywhere else, BH residents are more and more interested in green issues and sustainability. One man swimming against the tide is realtor Andrew Jay Goss, Chairman of the Green Committee of the Beverly Hills Greater Los Angeles Association of Realtors®. Realtors usually aren't concerned about green construction techniques--their job is to just get the darned house sold, and by the way, mug shots just do not print well on recycled paper (what is up with the glamour shots, anyway?).
Mr. Goss is organizing a seminar, "Basic Green For a Residential Agent," on Thursday afternoon, September 17th. Realtors and the general public are invited to attend. For more information on the location, please click here for more information and to register.
With all the focus on automobile technology, we forget that our homes are huge emitters of pollutants. Seminars like these will assist homeowners on how they can become green, and bottom line, save money on utilities--the changes needed are usually seamless!
