Future Perfect, the Swedish Celebration of Sustainability

Are you in Scandinavia at the end of July?  If so, you should drop by Molkom, outside of Karlstad, Sweden, at the end of this month.

Sweden generally scores high on the sustainability indices, but as is the case with any country, there is always room for improvement.  In many countries sustainability comes across as elitist, so a group of Swedish professionals are working to change that perception.

Future Perfect Festival, July 28-31, hopes to give a sustainability a boost with a revitalized celebration that will have a positive and constructive message.  The festival will occur in Karlstad, a town of 60,000 where the Klaralven River flows into Lake Vanern.

The four-day festival will focus on sustainable living and will target the general public and professionals in different sectors who focus on social change instead of just preaching to the choir.  While most “green” festivals and events have good intentions, they are often backslapping affairs that attract the same crowd over and over.  Plus Future Perfect’s organizers want to avoid the “too-cool-for-school” and negative drivel that often dampen these events.

Topics cover a bevy of issues:  conservation, food, globalization, education, architecture, and design, just to name a few.

Resource Vision is partnering with the American Embassy in Stockholm, RUM Magazine, CO2PENHAGEN Festival, and Karlstads Kommun, among other organizations, for this event.

Few places are better for a summer visit than Scandinavia.  Walking down a street at 10:30 at night, with skies still brightly lit, is an exotic treat for those of us who live in Middle Earth (I mean California).  Just learn a couple words, hej (hi!) and tak (thanks!), and you’ll fit in.

Questions, contact one of my Tweeps, Jonathan Sundqvist, with any questions.  Check out his blog, too.
