Canine Yoga: A New Take on Downward Dog

Oct 24, 2010 3 Comments by
It was not that long ago when yoga was considered new age silliness, but the practice has boomed across the country.  Studios are opening up all over, and health clubs offer classes.  For dog owners, canine yoga, or “doga,” is an opportunity to bond with your furry friend.

Believe it or not, there are books devoted to the subject of canine yoga, a few studios focused on the practice, and yes, even Cesar Milan has whispered about doga.

Yoga is touted for its ability to connect us with ourselves and the earth.  Doga takes this up to a whole new level.  We tried a few poses this morning with Cosmo, our 11-plus year old shih-tzu.  Whether he felt the interconnectedness is debated.  Please view the attempted yoga positions below—mouse over to see the various poses.
