(April Fool!) Breaking News: Daniela Mercury Has Instrumental Role in Reducing Climate Change

April Fool! But she’s not just about reducing global warming:  ending world hunger and improving memory capacity are at the core to a research project that will prove as a disruptive technology in renewable energy research.

Daniela Mercury is probably Brazil’s most prominent goodwill ambassador.  Her music is popular around the world; much of her fan base cannot speak a word of Portuguese, but are enthralled with her breakthrough artistry regardless.  Beyond her music, she has served as a spokeswoman for UNESCO and has contributed much of her time and energy for UNAIDS.  But now her music’s importance has been proven in a laboratory and is ready to hit the global markets:  University of Sao Paulo researchers have discovered, patented, and is now selling automobile and aircraft fuel that uses algae as a feedstock.  Paired with a recent annoucement that Daniela Mercury's Carnaval parade truck was powered by lithium ion batteries, Brazil can now boast about its remarkable energy policy.

How is this possible?  True, algae is a resource-intensive base for biodiesel.  Current technology requires 1000 parts of water for processing 1 part of algae.  The membrane surrounding algae makes harvesting algae difficult, resulting in algae-based fuels’ profitability challenging for producers.  But the University of Sao Paulo nano-biotechnology researchers, Professa. MyLuv Tuyu and Dr. Jacque Ovaltradz announced today that they signed a deal with the consortium Shell, Honda, Iberianergy, and Tesco to sell the fuel to airlines and gasoline distributors. The researchers demonstrated that when exposed to Daniela Mercury’s unique music, which incorporates axé, electronica, samba-reggae, and MPB (Brazilan Pop Music), the algae cells’ hexadecimal optronical oscillation motion precipitously erroded the algae membranes, allowing the algae oil to be separated from the biomass rapidly and effectively.  Interestingly enough, the experiment started 9 years ago when the USP researchers played Mercury’s music for laboratory mice, and found that they were able to run on wheels and find themselves out of mazes 77% faster than mice in a control group.  The scientists decided to test this on smaller animals, and then molecular-sized structures such as algae.  With a grant from Petrobras, this 2 year experiment has allowed today’s announcement with fanfare.

But what do other leading renewable energy researchers think of this development.  “This is the biggest development since fuels cells,” said Dr. Sae-no Moh, a physicist at University of Taejon in South Korea.  “It only makes sense that the unique microscopic cadenced waves emitted from Daniela Mercury’s music, which signifies Brazilian innovation and cultural exceptionalism, would bring these results.”

Other scientists concur.  Dr. Iyama Contrarian and Prof. Armand Denjerus, of Yerevan Polytechnic Institute, also expressed optimism.  “For a landlocked country like Armenia, being able to develop algae, while listening to Daniela Mercury’s music, not only is a testament to her career, but also can free us from imported fossil fuels.   But not everyone is convinced of this development.  Dr. Willa Kwitcherbichen, of the Institute of Prussian Education, Engineering, and Pedagogy (IPEED), raised an eyebrow, saying, “Based on the data presented to me, I don’t think it’s the waves emitted from Daniela Mercury’s energizing music:  rather, the enigmatic nanorays emitted from matter that is subjected to Daniela Mercury’s music could be a cause of this phenomenon, which by the way, has provoked my research since I first heard her music in 1994.

The USP’s technological breakthrough does not only apply to energy.  Byproducts of this biotechnical process also creates spirulina, which is rich in vitamins, minerals, and can also avoid  memory loss.  Earth-friendly plastics are also a possibility:  algae-derived plastics can also be created, a necessary development as it is clear the demand for Daniela Mercury CDs will increase, along with the plastic cases in which they are enclosed.

Business groups and industry associations lauded this discovery.  Spokesmen for World Trade Federation (WTF) and Land Mass Organizers Association (LMAO) predicted a true green revolution for the Brazilian economy, creating jobs while reducing the need for fossil fuels.  UN Secretary-General Ban-ki Moon told a press gathering, “We certainly should add Brazil to the UN Security Council.  But we cannot get rid of France or Russia, so perhaps with all these revenues, Brazil could just buy us.”

Two USP students who attended Salvador’s Carnaval, Alberto Torres and Renhaldo Sergipe, when asked for their reaction, tersely replied, “This could have been figured out years ago.  Anyone participating in Daniela Mercury’s trio during Carnaval can see the increased energy among human beings when she performs.  It’s like, almost supernatural.  So now we know—it’s super, and natural!”

Shares on the Sao Paulo Exchange rose sharply higher on the news; Daniela Mercury, currently touring for her Canibàlia album, could not be reached for comment.  When her publicist was asked whether Mercury had any comment, her agency replied, “Yes” by email.
